Your big day is coming up and one of the best ways to remember and document every moment is through pictures, of course! Once you have hired your photographer, set up a meeting to go over all the pictures you won’t want to miss.

Some photos will depend on a few things, such as — How long do you have your photographer? How many photographers do you have?  Are you doing a first look? How many people are in your bridal party? Are you taking pictures at your ceremony or reception site or going to another location?

  1. Getting Ready, Guys and Girls – if you have your photographer long enough, ladies, make sure you get pictures before you put on your dress, such as getting hair and makeup done, putting on your dress, jewelry, and shoes. Also request pictures of the guys getting ready as well – tying ties, putting shoes on, etc.
  2. Dress, Tux, Shoes – photos of things, without people, are worth getting and fun to look back on; a shot of the dress hanging up can be beautiful.
  3. Rings, Jewelry, Accessories – pictures of the rings alone are a must, of course! If you have special keepsakes or accessories for the wedding party, you may want a few snaps of those as well.
  4. Invitations/Program – detailed pictures of your invitation and the program make great keepsakes.
  5. Ceremony and Reception Spaces, Empty/Decorated – you worked so hard on the décor, make sure you get pictures of all the decorations and the spaces before people arrive.
  6. Cake – pictures of the cake before its cut are often overlooked, remember to get this one!
  7. First Look – if you plan to have a ‘first look’ moment before the ceremony, these are often the bride and groom’s favorite pictures. They can be done alone with just the photographer to get a more genuine reaction. Even if you aren’t seeing each other before the ceremony, you can still do something on either side of a door or wall, perhaps holding hands.
  8. First Look for Bridal Party and Family, Before the Bride – it can also be fun to have first look with family and the bridal party, especially with the father of the bride.
  9. Bride and Groom – individual portraits
  10. Family Photos, Individual and Group Shots – make a list of all the individual and group combinations, and who you want in each photo. Most photographers can help organize these shots as well.
  11. Rings, Generational – another fun family photo – grab a shot with all the women in the family and their wedding rings.
  12. Bridal Party – individual and group shots
  13. Guests being seated.
  14. Walking Down the Aisle – guests, bridal party, flower girl, ring bearer, family and bride!
  15. Father of the Bride – giving the bride away.
  16. Vows, Rings, Ceremony – pictures of the bride and groom, but also of family and guests, during the ceremony.
  17. First Kiss – must have photo! Your photographer needs to be in the right spot, and may even ask the officiant to move out of the way to get the perfect shot.
  18. Walking Out – after the ceremony; wedding party, and the bride and groom.
  19. Candid Photos – before, during and after the ceremony and reception.
  20. Bridal Party – entering the reception.
  21. Bride and Groom – entering the reception.
  22. All Dances – first dance, mother/son dance, father/daughter dance, etc…
  23. Cake Cutting
  24. Bouquet and Garter Toss
  25. Dancing Photos – if you have more time with your photographer, fun dancing photos are a must!

Couples love looking back on photos of their big day, so make sure you get those must-have shots!
