Your wedding dress is probably the most expensive gown you will ever own. Not to mention, your dress sets the tone for the wedding as a whole. - Be open to new suggestions. Bridal consultants will tell you that they constantly see women come in with a set idea of what they want for a gown, then try it on and don’t actually love it — and instead, they fall for something completely different that they’d never considered. If you keep an open mind, you may find a dream dress you didn’t know could be your dream dress.
- Figure out your budget. Yes, it can be stressful, but it will save you a lot of trouble later on. Before your first appointment with a consultant, figure out how you are paying for the dress. This will help narrow down many dresses or even specific dress shops.
- Focus on the wedding dress that best suits your silhouette. This one may seem obvious, but remember to pick a style and a size that flatters your body shape. For example, a sheath may look best on a tall bride, but a fit-and-flare dress will work on many body types.
- Pick three adjectives to describe what you would want in a wedding gown. You might want a dress that is short, simple and white or you might want a dress that is long, elegant and ivory. By picking three adjectives, you are narrowing down your list of options for a dress.
No doubt that the choices seem overwhelming. With all of these things in mind, remember to pick a dress that you will love on your wedding day and even 30 years down the road!
