When you dream of walking down the aisle or dancing at your reception, do you picture flowers? We’re not surprised if you do! In fact, florals are one of the biggest décor factors in most weddings and it’s easy to see why!

Beautiful florals set just the right vibe for your ceremony and celebration.

Perfect flower arrangements are a critical factor for a dreamy wedding; unfortunately, floral arrangements also can be very expensive. Looking to save money on the big event? Ball Event Center has two tips for you: one, book a local florist who can help you walk through your choices; and two, pick wedding flowers that will be in season on your big day.

Why Choose Seasonal Wedding Flowers

Picking flowers that are in season means they can be sourced more easily and for a better price. While you can absolutely purchase flowers from the other side of the world, you will have to pay extra for the growing, shipping, etc. Nobody wants that bill – or the potential for damaged flowers.

Secondly, choosing seasonal flowers means a greater abundance of florals. You can spend less for more floral pieces rather than paying premium for a smaller amount of your highly prized flowers.

Thirdly, if you’re planning your wedding way in advance, you can even choose your wedding date during the month your favorite flower is in full bloom! Whether you’re planning for a certain flower or simply perusing what’s in season for your already-picked wedding date, Ball Event Center has a handy list to help! Take a peek through these common flower types and then discuss with your local florist to determine which blooms would be great for bouquets and which florals would make excellent centerpieces, corsages, etc.

Seasonal Wedding Flowers

Spring Flowers

From March to May, expect the softest, loveliest blooms. The gentle spring weather is ideal for delicate blossoms! Consider some of these beauties:

Bleeding Hearts, Cherry or Apple Blossoms, Cosmos, Daffodils, Dwarf crested Lilies, Forget-me-nots, Hyacinth, Hydrangea, Lamb’s Ear, Lilac, Lily of the Valley, Peonies, Periwinkle, Roses, Star Magnolias, Sweet Peas, and Tulips.

Summer Flowers

There are still an abundance of flowers come summertime, but blazing heat can wilt even the heartiest of cut stems. Make sure to discuss with your local florist which flowers can hold up for outdoor weddings and which may need special care. Keep your eye out for these stunning blooms June – August:

Anemone, Bergamot, Blazing Stars, Calla Lily, Casablanca Lily, Cornflower, Dahlias, Daisies, Day Lilies, Delphinium, Foxtail Lilies, Poppies, Queen Anne’s Lace, Rhododendron, Roses, Stephanotis, and Wild Blue Indigo.

Fall Flowers

Autumn’s cool is quite refreshing, but many common flowers are out of season by this time. Not to worry! There are several unique florals that come into full bloom this time of year! Be sure to check out these September-November florals:

Aster, Black-eyed Susans, Calla Lilies, Chocolate Cosmos, Chrysanthemums, Coronillas, Dahlias, English Lavender, Geraniums, Parrot Tulips, Purple Coneflowers, Roses, Statice (Sea Lavender), Sunflowers (including Willow-Leaved Sunflowers), and Victorian Lilies.

Winter Flowers

The chilly and sometimes icy winter season is of course the most difficult time of year to find florals outside of a greenhouse. However, from December through February, there are some gorgeous flowers and plants we don’t want to overlook! If you like one-of-a-kind bouquets, look into:

Amaryllis, Calendula, Camelia (especially Winter’s Rose Camelia), Christmas Rose, Evergreen branches, Freesia, Heather, Holly, Ivies, Lenten Rose, Lisianthus, Narcissus, Poinsettias, Roses, Ranunculus, Violets, Winter Jasmine, Witch Hazel, and Yellow Jessamine.
