It’s been a big year for weddings so far and this coming fall will be no exception!

Since the pandemic postponed many marriage ceremonies and festivities, couples who have been patiently waiting to have their weddings are going all out this year! According to The Knot, as many as 2.6 million weddings will take place in 2022, up from 2.2 million in 2019, prior to the pandemic. These special life events are also happening on a larger scale to make up for the long engagement periods, causing them to be much more expensive. The Knot reports that October is the most popular month of the year for weddings, with October 22nd being the most popular date. With so many brides and grooms looking to tie the knot this fall, we are going to take a close look at some up-and-coming trends for fall 2022 weddings!

Breaking Tradition This Fall

Wedding experts are saying Fall 2022 weddings will be more personal than ever, some traditional things will stay but couples are making their weddings feel like them more now than ever. Some examples are custom cocktails, unique cake toppers, or skipping the cake altogether and just doing fun desserts instead. Party favors may look different as well. Some brides may even forego the traditional white dress for one a dark one instead! Emily Forrest, the Director of Communications for Zola, says we can expect to see wedding styles that are “big, loud, and dramatic — think bold flash photography, dark and moody decor, and nontraditional brightly colored attire.”

More on the Cake (or Lack of Cake!)

This year more than ever, couples are opting for a dessert table instead of a big fancy cake. These dessert tables aren’t just filled with cupcakes either. We are seeing a wide range of comforting fall-inspired sweets, like pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, cider donuts, and even caramel apples at the dessert table or as fall wedding favors. Couples are even forgoing the tradition of cutting the cake and having dessert right after dinner.

Fall 2022 Colors

As mentioned, bright, light colors are out with summer, and this fall, dark, moody, metallic, and neutral tones are in. We are going to see a lot of burgundies, rusts, terracottas, coppers, and other warm neutrals this fall. Flickering candles and whimsical lighting will also be heavily featured in wedding decors all throughout fall.

The Flowers

One of the biggest trends for fall 2022 is dried flowers vs. fresh flowers. Using dried flowers allows for the bride to feature moody fall colors in her bouquet and decorations. Plus, dried flowers have a memorable, rustic look and the bride can easily keep her bouquet forever. Popular dried flowers this fall include pampas grass, sola flowers, dried and preserved flowers, and fragrant botanicals.
