Many of the basics of a wedding have remained the same for generations. White wedding dress. Attendants. Flowers. Reception. Trends come and go, and they influence every aspect of standing up in front of friends and family and citing vows, and more couples are embracing individuality over strict formality.

A case in point? Tuxedos. Or fewer tuxedos, rather. Though hardly “out,” they are not the default option that they have been for over a century. Sleek and stylish suits are very much “in,” instead.

Suits fit the modern (married) man these days because they allow more flexibility in silhouette, color, fabric, setting, and more. They are more adaptable to daytime, outdoor, and not-quite-formal ceremonies, and they are firmly on trend in terms of contemporary men’s fashion, which is as embracing of all that is dynamic and unique as anything seen in womenswear.

Probably the most common use of suiting in weddings is groom and groomsmen in identical suits, but with a very slight color variation for the groom. The gentlemen in dark, almost-black green, and the groom in black; or the guys in royal blue and the man of the day in navy, for instance.

Suits in weddings are mirroring a trend seen in bridesmaids’ dresses: identical styles but in different yet related colors, or basically the same dress in the same color, but each with its own stylistic flourish. More and more groomsmen are escorting companions down the aisle in identical suits, but each a different color.

There’s also a practical application. A man is much more likely to wear a suit again, unlike the oft-made declaration about bridesmaids’ dresses. And, just like the tuxedo, tuxedo rental shops now commonly include suits, too.

They are following color trends, as well. Burgundy, terra-cotta, and aubergine for fall and winter, with sage, stone, tan, and sky blue in spring and summer. This variation makes coordination with the overall color palette, as well as flowers, linens, and décor, easy, not to mention easy on the eyes.

The tuxedo is far from down and out, though. It is still the correct option for formal weddings, especially black-tie affairs. Satin lapels, bow ties, and cummerbunds have been in vogue for as long as they have for good reason. Tuxedos are available in an almost unlimited number of colors and cuts, but they are still the most appropriate option for a timeless look and feel.

The advantages to suits include:

  • They are a more flexible option for semi-formal, outdoor, daytime weddings, especially within specific color palettes.
  • The men are more likely to wear it again, especially if the color is more traditional, such as gray, dark blue, or even a subtle plaid.
  • More personalization and creativity in fabrics, colors, and tailoring.

The menswear trend driving 2026 weddings is all about self-expression and modern style. Suits offer color, comfort, and versatility that match today’s wedding aesthetics, making them the top choice for grooms and groomsmen. Whether the goal is bold, understated, classic, or unique, a suit provides the freedom to design a look that truly reflects the day.

Likewise, Ball Event Center offers the same flexibility. Whatever the size of the party, the tastes of the couple, adherence to tradition, or even bucking it entirely, Ball has the space and the services needed to “suit” any occasion.
